This second collection is a further step towards the rebuilding of the creature we like to call human through materials like shoelaces, cords, hardware, silk, and cotton. The inspiration comes from the idea of “monumentalism” and the main character is Kartlis Deda, the sculpture by Elguja Amashukeli rising on the Sololaki Hills in Tbilisi.
Looks are an evolution from a human form to aluminum to plaster. The iliac crest is accentuated with padding, to create imposing anatomic reshaping. Tetri - the Georgian fractional currency symbol of freedom from repression - is applied on silk to shape the human anatomy out of steel: in some looks, coins create a metal skin on characters. The majority of the collection is made of natural fibers. These materials are sourced from the dead stock of high-end producers, so the availability of each item is limited and exclusively made to order. The handweaving technique used to build garments is reprised from the designer's original community of Azerbaijanis in Georgia, using cotton shoelaces instead of wool threads of carpet-making tradition.
